BIPOC women belong in tech

Tech is one of the fastest growing industries in the world.

Yet, BIPOC women represent <5% of the major tech workforce.

HLA Character.png

There are BIPOC women missing out on the opportunity to work in an innovative, high-paying industry…and technology loses out on having the perspective of BIPOC women when building tools that help shape influential advancements in our world.

We believe BIPOC women are extremely capable.

We believe BIPOC women have a lot to offer to the tech industry.

We believe BIPOC women belong in tech.

School: University of Southern California (B.A. in English); Azusa Pacific University (M.A. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology)

Favorite tech product:
Microsoft Surface Go! It’s compact enough to carry in my bag when I’m on the move but powerful enough for me to work on. 🏃🏾‍♀️

What the HLA mission means to you:
Technology is one of the fastest growing and most influential industries in the world, but BIPOC women represent a fraction of the workforce. I am passionate about closing the gap of BIPOC women in tech through practical career guidance and inspiring girls to consider technology as a career. I truly believe there’s enough room at the table for all of us.

Fun fact:
My favorite animals are sharks! 🦈I’ve loved sharks ever since I was little because they are beautiful and terrifying at the same time 😅. I’ve gone swimming with whale sharks three times, and one of my bucket-list goals is to learn how to scuba dive so I can swim with other shark species.

Favorite tech product:
An Apple iPad has to be my favorite tech product at the moment. I love the versatility it has and how much you can actually get done with one. It is small and compact, and can also double as a laptop with the help of keyboard cases. I love that you are able to use it for business purposes, and also for fun like using it to sketch and play games.

What the HLA mission means to you:
I believe everyone should have the same access to resources and opportunities, but unfortunately that is not always the case. As a BIPOC woman, coming from a low income community and as a first generation college student, I faced some of those challenges myself to find organizations focused on informing and supporting BIPOC women in STEM. My goal is to help increase awareness and provide support to other BIPOC women in the field.

Fun fact:
I love to explore new places through food! I enjoy traveling and going to new places and do so by trying the foods available there. Whether it be a unique restaurant, crazy dessert place, or a super instagramable, aesthetic spot.

Favorite tech product:
My Samsung Note10+ - a phone with a large screen, lots of storage and a solid camera (for food photography of course)!

I found it perfect for on-the-go studying and work too, especially pre-covid when I was often transiting around the city.

What the HLA mission means to you:
As a POC and FGLI female student, I can resonate with some of your challenges, and have always shared a passion for diversity and inclusion initiatives, as well as both personal and professional development.

I am super excited to help grow our amazing community - the one you’re all a part of ❤️

Fun fact:
I love exploring (aesthetic) restaurants and delicious food with friends! Some of my favorite dishes are aburi sushi, poke and tacos but of course, I’m always open to trying new things 😋
